You mentioned you are "running ubuntu from version 7.04, has a kernel
panic with the latest Intrepid kernel 2.6.27-7." Are you really using
the Intrepid 2.6.27 kernel from a Feisty Fawn 7.04 installation? Is
there a reason you haven't upgraded the entire system? The reason I ask
is because 7.04 has reached it's End of Life and is no longer being
supported - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.04-end-of-life .
