Sorry about all the repeat posting. I hate to say I deleted my /var/log
directory to get the system working well again. I checked through my
history of packages upgraded by apt, for notable system things that
could have created this new problem. I haven't been paying much
attention to this recently so it could be anything:

Wednesday Nov 5, I upgraded:
linux-headers-2.6.27-7 (2.6.27-7.15) to 2.6.27-7.16
linux-headers-2.6.27-7-generic (2.6.27-7.15) to 2.6.27-7.16
linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic (2.6.27-7.15) to 2.6.27-7.16

Thursday Nov 6, I upgraded:
nvidia-96-modaliases (96.43.05-0ubuntu10) to 96.43.09-0ubuntu1

And 'my bad, I think I'm posting in the wrong bug report :O
