I am having the same issue. Kdesudo did pop up, but I am still getting
the described behavior.
I believe the "Samba Section" the OP referred to was:
System Settings > Advanced > System > Samba
I am running 8.10 upgraded from 8.04. I have done nothing to kdesudo
that I am aware of.
