I just tried your profile with liferea 1.0.23 on Ubuntu 6.10 (amd64). It hogged my CPU for about fifteen seconds, appearing to hang, but then appeared to work fine. It also exhibited the same behaviour after being started again.
Deleting the cache file does indeed result in a faster startup.
