This sounds like a broken monitor EDID issue, although there isn't EDID info listed in the Xorg.0.log. Could you collect the output of `get- edid | parse-edid` (from the read-edid package) and post here?
For working around the issue, I've outlined some steps at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution and http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Resolution, which might help. Also if I'm correct that it's an EDID issue, then the issue is going to be particular to your monitor, so if you have a different one on hand you could try it. 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] (rev 03) Subsystem: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] -- system hangs after logging in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
