Public bug reported:

Sound stopped working for me after Gutsy. After that time, it has been
laced with static and generally inoperable, in Hardy, and now Intrepid,
though it has mysteriously worked perfectly after hibernation in
Intrepid.

My setup includes an Intel dg965wh motherboard which uses:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)
STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog] / STAC92xx Digital [STAC92xx Digital]

Adjusting the volume, either from the gnome-panel or alsa-mixer has not
made a difference.

This is the command that I'm using to test:
pasuspender madplay Maroon\ 5\ -\ Songs\ About\ Jane\ -\ 01\ -\ Harder\ To\
Breathe.mp3

** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
