I corrected what sim wrote... tested and it does work correctly (the
file goes in the trash)

Open file ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals in a text editor.
Change the line

Trash[$e]=$HOME/Desktop/Trash/

to:

Trash[$e]=$HOME/.local/share/Trash/files

Restart digikam and now the delete function works.

Please note that this is a far featch bug. KDE follow freedesktop.org
standard and gnome does not like where should the trash goes. Of course,
should the digikam package for Ubuntu work? Of course. So the question
is, why does it not work now?
