this is really annoying problem
it happens only on alternate install, both in ubuntu and kubuntu, the
same in 8.04.1 and 8.10
at the beggining, it says that it was unable to detect cdrom
i have an asus motherboard, pentium quad, and dvdrw from samsung (SATA)
