Thank you for your advice. I am a newbee to Ubuntu and like it very much. I am not a Linux programmer. I solved the problem by a simple delete and a very simple reinstall. I have 4GB of Ram and 3X500GB hard drives. I created a 40GB partition for the Ubuntu software and dedicated 30GB in the install menu. I will carefully select what I install in the future
