true. i just wanted to add that i recently dissembled the harddrive (well, i took it out of its case) and attached a different sata-usb interface and guess what: the harddrive could be properly unmounted and unplugged without the noise. so in case you're not afraid of breaking that shabby plastic cover of your wd passport, just go out and buy a new interface for a few bucks (and maybe even an aluminium cover for a few more, might protect it better).
