Indeed, I always report bugswith the goal of helping tomake things better. Last year I worked alot with Matt (Zimerman) to get the original install CD's to work on AMD64 with the NEC DVD reader that I had. I think that I contribute as much as I can to making Ubuntu better - making it work on 64bit especially.
On the other hand, it's not easy finding one's way on the documentation and wiki sites, the advice offered is often contradictory and very often suggests work arounds involving 3rd party sw, especially for multimedia and web browsing. I usually try to compile my own and install with checkinstall. Two really painful parts have always been - viewing embedded flash/quicktime on the amd64, - getting the ati binary drivers and xorg.conf file to work properly after kernel or os upgrades. I have been running 32bit firefox and plugins to get over the first problem, for the ati drivers, this had worked perfectly for many kernels, but again caused grief for the Dapper->Edgy upgrade. There has been good progress, but for me personally, the upgrade to Edgy has been very tough going. You must understand, that although I have good IT knowledge, it's not easy understanding how to fix each configuration file, or how to debug crashes... Anyway, thanks for all the help. If there's anything you or anyone else would like me to do, just ask.
