Public bug reported:
I upgraded Kubuntu 8.04 to Kubuntu 8.10. The normal Bluetooth
application of KDE was buggy as in release notes so I installed gnome-
bluetooth as gui frontend for Bluetooth. My Nokia 7610 phone which
earlier connected, paired and transferred data from PC to phone fine now
didn't connect using the same Bluetooth dongle.
After much searching and tinkering and happened to install the linux
kernel 2.6.24-16 from Hardy's alternate CD and Bluetooth seems to works
fine as it used to.
This shows newer kernel's Bluetooth stack has bugs which must be fixed. This I
have tried many times and got the same results all times.
Addition related information::
Even bluez-uits of Hardy has bugs. It didn't allow me to transfer files from
Nokia 7610 phone to PC. However downgrading to Gusty's bluez-utils help me. The
same bug(not allowing to transfer files from phone to PC) is still there; even
after I downgraded to older kernel and am able to connect pair and transfer
files from PC to phone.
