Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-base

Hardware: Acer Aspire 2920 laptop
System: ubuntu 8.10
Kernel: 2.6.27.8
Sound HDA-Intel (ALC268)

In fact, there are 2 bugs.

1. in ubuntu 8.04.1 I also had problems with sound card (mic did not
work), but when I compiled alsa 1.0.17 external mic started to work fine
for me.

After I installed 8.10 Intel sound card was detected wrongly.
alsamixergiu shows it as "pulse audio" but not as ALC268. As a result
mic was not working again. It's strange coz it's alsa 1.0.17 where my
mic worked fine and sound card detected correctly.

2. I tried to compile alsa 1.0.18 as usual
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto). But after I put
"sudo ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel
--with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)"

a mistake appears in terminal saying smth like "that the version of gcc
installed is not matching the version alsa been compiled and it requires
gcc 4.3.2 or later".

>From one hand it's true coz Synaptic shown gcc's version as 4.3.1 (which is
>reasonable old) and it's really not matching. But from other hand
"gcc -version"
gives 4.3.2

So, here are bugs:
1. alsa 1.0.17 which comes with ubuntu 8.10 do not detects my sound chip
correctly although alsa 1.0.17 in 8.04.1 been compiled by myself worked fine.

2. Mic in ubuntu 8.10 does not work

3. There is contradicting in version shown in Synaptic and result of
"gcc -version" what does not allow me to compile alsa 1.0.18

Thanks!
