My original Gnome bug description is below: Please describe the problem: With Ubuntu 8.10 (latest 2.6.27-7-generic kernel) and GNome 2.24.1 mouse is configured to be 'left handed' via the System -> Preferences -> Mouse. I switch to another computer on my KVM, do some work and then switch back to ubuntu computer. Mouse preferences have now been reset to right handed. Temporary fix: Reset the preferences via System->Preferences->Mouse panel again. This is a new issue since Ubuntu 8.04 with the latest kernel for it. The mouse is a MSFT Optical USB mouse connected to an IOGear KVM that supports USB Keyboard/Mouse. Steps to reproduce: 1. Install Ubuntu 8.10 w/GNome 2.24.1, connect to computer via KVM with USB mouse & keyboard. 2. Switch to another computer on the KVM box 3. Switch back to ubuntu box; mouse preferences have been reset to right handed Actual results: Mouse settings are gone and reset to right-handed. Expected results: Mouse settings stay at left-handed configuration Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: As mentioned in the description, this was not an issue on the 8.04 install. I upgraded to 8.10 and the problem has appeared. No luck getting any suggestions on ubuntu forums. Am willing to experiment, need guidance on the 'how' though. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version.
