and identical in effect to one of the postings in the above:

    I am experiencing a similar problem to Colin's, though it seems to be more
severe: viewing a directory mounted with CIFS in Nautilus produces a kernel
panic within ~30 seconds (caps and num lock flashing). There is no problem with
listing directory contents or copying files through the console.
    $ uname -a
-| Linux bear 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 07:42:25 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux
I am on a Dell D630 Laptop with Gutsy 7.10. I will test this behavior when
Hardy is released in several days.[/quote]

ian-desktop% uname -a
Linux ian-desktop 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:20 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux
ian-desktop% lsb_release -rd
'Description:   Ubuntu 8.10
Release:        8.10
ian-desktop% mount
//xxx.yyy.zzz.www/ddd on /home/ddd/UnixHome type cifs (rw,mand)

mounted by:  smbmount //xxx.yyy.zzz.www/ddd /home/ddd/UnixHome -o
username=ddd,workgroup=VVV,uid=10101,gid=42

(nb: machine names, user ids, gids changed)

copying, moving (and sometimes browsing) files in Nautilus or from command line
to the given smb/cifs mount crashes the machine (caps and num lock flashing).

Running Intrepid Ibex on a Dell Precision 690. All latest updates
applied.

If you tell me what information you want (and how to get it) I'll post
that asap.
