My steps to reproduce this:
1) Enter folder with very long path
2) Press and hold Up hotkey (Alt-Up by default)
3) Thunar will crash
It's match easy to reproduce this on a slow system.

This is not thunar problem, it is in gtk. 
In gtk 2.14 this fixed, but ubuntu still use 2.12.
Patch for gtk+2.0_2.12.9-3ubuntu5 follows.
