Hello, I tested the commands you posted on an 8.04 desktop and they worked fine for me. I was just wondering if you're connecting from the local machine or not? Also, which version of MySQL are you using? The version I tested with is mysql-server-5.0-5.0.51a-3ubuntu5.3.
