I have the same problem on a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ3XWP. I noticed my battery
life was a lot worse upon installing Intrepid (fresh install from CD),
so ran powertop. Here is my output:

Cn Avg residency P-states (frequencies)
C0 (cpu running) ( 4.1%) 2.00 Ghz 0.9%
polling 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 1.67 Ghz 0.0%
C1 halt 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 1333 Mhz 0.0%
C2 0.9ms ( 0.1%) 1000 Mhz 99.1%
C3 10.0ms (95.8%)

Wakeups-from-idle per second : 96.3 interval: 5.0s

Top causes for wakeups:

  19.7% ( 20.2) <interrupt> : iwl3945
  18.1% ( 18.6) xchat : schedule_timeout (process_timeout)
   9.6% ( 9.8) gnome-settings- : schedule_timeout (process_timeout)
   8.0% ( 8.2) <kernel IPI> : Rescheduling interrupts
   7.8% ( 8.0) <interrupt> : extra timer interrupt

A USB device is active 100.0% of the time:
/sys/bus/usb/devices/4-2

lsusb identifies this device as (I think):
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 044e:300c Alps Electric Co., Ltd Bluetooth Controller
(ALPS/UGPZ6)

I went into System > Administration > Services and disabled Bluetooth
Device Management but this hasn't solved the problem. I haven't removed
btusb.
