Public bug reported:

I have a HP Pavilion a820n with Intel(R) Pentium (R)4 CPU 3.20 GHz and I
have tried to run the live CD versions of Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and openSUSE
11, and it hangs up trying to start up. It is interesting as Ubuntu
7.04 & 7.10 both ran fine on this computer as did 8.10 upgrade. I
removed 8.04 from the hard drive and installed Wubi 8.10. Note: I tried
to install Wubi 8.10 on my newer HP Pavilion a6660t Intel Core 2 duo and
it would not run. I then tried Wubi-selfextract.exe from http:/wubi-
installer.org/devel/minefield and it worked well on the a6660t. When I
installed it on the a820n it shows several pages in terminal mode but
continues on and runs well with no other problems.

This is when I installed a second hard drive (500GB) and decided to try
Ubuntu 8.10 live desktop CD and it would not work and stalled with
"Loading, Please wait". I then tried using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS live desktop
CD and it failed with the scanning bar going back and forth. Then I
tried using open SUSE 11 live CD and the same results with the scanning
bar.

It appears that there is something in the Linux kernel that keeps my
computer from functioning or SOMETHING in my computer that keeps it from
running the live CD's. Although, as I said it runs with a slight bug
during start up on Wubi 8.10.

This is the same computer that I reported Bug 235349 on. Which was when
trying to use an external nvidia video card.

I hope I have given enough information to get you started.

Thanks,

James Robertson
