I was having problems with large data transfers. My PC's intergrated
ethernet port used to go down & come up in a few seconds by itself. The
solution given above resolved my problem. Though my hardware is
differnet, this seems to be a general issue with forcedeth drivers on
Ubuntu standard kernels.
I am using Hardy 64bit Server on Asus P5N-MX board.
