I renamed the xorg.conf as well as using the option "Try to fix x-server" in 
Recovery mode, but freezing still occcurrs.
I also added 
 Option "DRI" "off"
to xorg.conf under Device, which led to black screens while booting with both 
2.6.27 and 2.6.24 kernels.
Oh, and one bug also appeared: when activating from standby, the screen remains 
black and no keyboard input like ctrl-alt-del or ctrl-alt-backspace is possible.
Perhaps it has something to do with the envy-gtk package, which i had installed 
under 8.04 but is now deactivated with 8.10.
I'll try to Uninstall the ati-driver with envyng -t and switching back to the 
original.
