This is a LAN hardware issue. I fixed it updating the LAN boot software to version 12.4
You have to download form Intel the PROBOOT.exe and execute it to get some files in a folder. Save the files in a bootable floppy or CD in order to reboot your laptop with it. Then you just have to execute the program IBAUTIL.exe from the MSDOS command. There is a file with detailed instructions about this. You can download the PROBOOT.exe file from Intel of course http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Search.aspx?Prod_nm=proboot.exe This solved the problem for me, it was never a Ubuntu bug.
