I get this bug on two stable 8.10 installations which use the restricted nVidia driver. They're both fine if you let them boot up in their default resolution, the problem only occurs when I specify a "vga=" parameter for the kernel (0x305 and 0x307). It looks very much like palette corruption, since the bitmap is the same, but the colours are changed, and these are 8-bit palette-based modes. Specifying a non- palette-based mode, like 1280x1024x32, is an effective work-around for the issue (but causes some other problems on my machines which makes it less than desirable).
If usplash expects a certain default VGA palette, then the problem may be that the nvidia driver is corrupting it. Otherwise, if usplash loads its own palette at shut-down time, perhaps the nvidia driver is somehow preventing that from happening. -- usplash shutdown screen corrupt post nvidia restricted drivers installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127280 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
