I can confirm that this has something to do with the EXA acceleration
method:
Adding the AccelMethod XAA option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf makes netbeans
usable again:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
