This bug is simple to reproduce.

Just boot from the Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop i386, select the "Try Ubuntu
without making changes to my computer".

After booting successfully, open "Software Sources".

Check all checkboxes in the "Ubuntu Software" tab.

Then, in the "Updates" tab, check only "Important security updates
(intrepid-security)".

Then use the "Update Manager" to update the system.

It reports this "crash" after downloading and installing the updates.
