Public bug reported:

Ever since upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid (but never before then; I've
been using Ubuntu since Edgy), I've had a strange problem. Each power
cycle, after I boot up, the sound works fine. And after I suspend to
RAM, resume, and, e.g., play something on Rhythmbox, the sound still
works— for a moment. But over the next thirty seconds or so, it
gradually becomes quieter and quieter until I can no longer hear it,
even if I turn the respective volumes of my headphones and the Volume
Control applet all the way up. I've tried nearly every workaround
mentioned in the comments to several similar bugs (#227007, #270593,
#202089) to no avail. Only a full restart restores the sound.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
