A ground-up reinstall of Intrepid results in the radeon driver being
selected rather than the fglrx driver. This does not exhibit these
problems. I think this has come about because I upgraded to Intrepid
rather than clean installing, resulting in the fglrx driver being
(mistakenly) selected.
I propose to close this bug as invalid, as I suspect the problem resides
somewhere in the fglrx driver, over which we have no control.
