Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon
Using Ubuntu 8.10 (upgraded from 8.04) with ubuntu studio installed - the
screen resolution is set by the gnome software preventing the nvidia settings
from working - the
gnome software does not recognise the monitor (Dell P992) sets the screen to a
max of 50hz and the system randomly crashes with no recourse to a terminal.
Stopping gnome-settings-daemon in 'system monitor' reverts the screen to the
nvidia
settings at 85hz and the OS runs until some other action restarts the daemon
which immediately crashes the system.
ON restart the gnome 'screen resolution' icon is displayed top right toolbar -
it seems the starting of the daemon automatically invokes this utility.
Sending now - third attempt - previously crashes prevented completion!
** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
