We pick the second-highest resolution for CRTs; this is usually a
sensible mode. Detecting LCDs vs CRTs is non-trivial and while we do
try to detect it, it's not an easy task (so often goes wrong).
Rejecting as I believe the current policy is the best we can currently
do; you are always free to change the resolution using the "screen
resolution" control panel option.
