Sorry for the delay, but it took some time to decide on a plan of attack. I installed Konqueror on my Ubuntu 8.04 desktop and logged on within it. I found myself logged in on the Bugs section. I jumped to both the Launchpad Home and Answers sections and to my surprise within Konqueror both retained my identity.
If you wish, I could also pursue my original plan of testing my login using the Mac OS X 10.4 machine that has both Firefox and an older version of Safari. I also have a working version of the 6.06 desktop that is constrained to use only the 2.0.0.x series of Firefox. It was my intention to run those tests, because I doubted just changing the browser would affect the result. I thought I had a clue why I might be having problems on Firefox when I saw I was only accepting the bugs cookie on Konqueror. However, it still worked. Nonetheless, it is still possible that I somehow restricted the cookies I allowed or one or more timed out. I should point out I tend to restrict my cookie intake. I await your further suggestions, should you wish for me to do some further tests. Let me know if you still wish to have me run the live CD version of 8.10. I will have to burn a copy, since I tend to stay with the LTS desktop.
