I have decided life is too short to continue with this and am now communicating from a clean install of 8.10 - having changed the resolution in NVIDIA X server settings - the change is reflected in Gnome Screen resolution - refresh rate is wrong though 120 in GSR - 95 in NVIDIA - on restart the resolution reverts to old settings despite saving to xserver in NVIDIA - this (saving) produces an error message > Unable to create new X config backup file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup'. So far no crashes! ** Attachment added: "xorg.conf" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19860403/xorg.conf -- gnome-settings-daemon conflict with Nvidia Xserver settings in 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
