Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: hibernate
Dell Inspiron i8100; nVIDIA 1.0-8776 drivers (from restricted
repositories). 6.06.1 LTS (upgrading to edgy made no difference - went
back to DD)
Suspend works well and can be repeated endlessly.
Hibernate progresses well, looks as if writes to swap, cards (nvidia,
PCI wireless, and sound) shutdown and just when I expect the power to
turn off, it doesn't.
I think the problem is related to the poweroff command (level). I
"feels" as if the machine wants to hibernate but something is preventing
the power from going off. Requires a hard shutoff (hold power button
for 5 seconds) and then a hard restart. The machine attempts to loads
programs that were running when it was hibernated, but data is sometimes
lost.
Suggestions/Fixes?
