Public bug reported:
I have an ASUS F8VA-B1 laptop and I'm running Intrepid 64 bit. When I installed
initially there was no sound at all. I found a workaround to get the sound
working but it's not a perfect solution. Editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and
adding the following line to the end:
options snd-hda-intel model=m51va
and in the System->Preferences->Sound selecting OSS - Open Sound System for
every section fixes the problem. I can hear sound now but this brings other
sound related problems. When an application is using the sound card e.g.
rhythmbox, every other application that tries to play a sound fails. This has
also an effect for me on playing flash videos in Firefox. The videos hang on
the 2nd or 3rd second if I am playing a song in rhythmbox. If I close it and
restart Firefox the problem goes away. As of recently I can't hear any sound
from the flash videos.
I'm attaching several outputs.
