Public bug reported:
I'm running edgy on a Compaq NW8240 laptop with a Radeon Mobility X700
graphic controller. When I boot with the splash screen, the colors of
the splash screen is off as if I was running in 16 colors. This is
reproducible each time.
Then, after login and I switch to another pseudo terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1),
I get horizontal colored lines and I can't really read anything. Then,
when I switch back to X (Ctrl-Alt-F7), I sometimes get the right image
but sometimes I get horizontal lines there too.
Obviously, I would expect to be able to switch between X and pseudo
terminals without seeing horizontal color lines all over the place.
The workaround is to simply remove "splash" from the kernel boot
options. Then, everything seems to work properly for some reason.
By the way, the splash screen worked just find in dapper. This only
happened since installing (haven't tried upgrading) edgy.
