I have the same problem in OOo 3.0 on Ubuntu 8.10. The files rw or read-only. Here's a workaround to get read access though: Gvfs has its own folder in the home folder called .gvfs where you can access all gvfs mounted drives. If I navigate to the file and open it through Nautilus, OOo will open it read-only.
