I seem to have the same problem listed here, except the hang is a hard crash. the screen does not go blank, but freezes with the gnome desktop and mouse cursor still on but unmovable. ctrl-alt-backspace and ctrl- alt-f# do not work. I can SSH in after the crash, but nothing I do seems to be able to safely land the system. If I do command line shutdown, it logs me out before I can see what is happening but the desktop screen does not change.
I have a Dell Vostro 200 w/ Core2 Duo E4500 2.20GHz and GeForce 8600 GT (rev a1) if any of that matters.
