Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xfce4-session
Xubuntu intrepid i386.
For getting avant-window-navigator running, it must be possible to use glx/dri
and compositing together. This works well when running a gnome-session on this
machine. The xfce4 session always appears without compositor, all windows glued
to the upper left corner without borders. The configuration option in the
xfce-settings-manager is invisible and forbidden to use.
I found a FAQ that told me to set compositor on with the
.xfce4/settings/xfwm4.xml like this
<option name="Xfwm/UseCompositing" type="int" value="1"/>
This line is missing, ifi set this by editor it did not survive the next
login. The following workaround does help.
killall xfwm4 && xfwm4 --compositor=on &
Then the compositor awakes and avant-window-navigator works well. I
suggest this is a bug, the compositor should be startable in simply
manner not by killing and restarting the windowmanager every login by
hand.
xfwm4 4.4.2-5ubuntu2
xfce4 4.4.2.1
Bye
Eric
