I'm on Intrepid and I can confirm this issue. I've tried with linux- backport-modules-intepid and with compat-wireless driver but it's impossible to get a decent throughput with 802.11b routers. Everything is fine with g/n devices, I hope that someone can manage this bug, if you need more information just ask.
