I now can confirm that this also affects F-Spot in 8.10.
I did a clean install of 8.10 and I am using a clean F-Spot Library
(f-spot-0.5.0.3-0ubuntu4). I now have 1,2 GB of RAM and a newer NVidia driver
(96 series).
What I observed so far:
* slideshow doesn't work with Nvidia driver (neither with compiz enabled nor
disabled)
* slideshow sort of works with the nv driver - at least the GUI elements are
there to navigate and the pictures change (transition slow, of course)
GFX: still GeForce4 MX 460

Please note that this is not my own PC and I cannot test beta releases
of Ubuntu on it :(

** Changed in: f-spot (Ubuntu)
