Peter, see Bug 299093. Does that describe what you're seeing? From
your comment about what you're seeing with PulseAudio, perhaps not, but
what I mentioned in my responses to that bug fix the "No sound in 9.04"
problem for me (after I redo the steps on each reboot), so I thought I'd
follow up with you.
