Public bug reported:
I get no sound from the default installation of 8.10 on my Sony Vaio
laptop, model PCG 4D1M. Everything appears fine in the System -> Sound
menu, but I can't produce a test sound with ALSA or OSS. This laptop
dual boots and the hardware works fine in Windows. This system was
installed with Xubuntu 8.04, which was dist-upgraded to 8.10 and I
currently use gnome, other the problem exists in Xfce also.
System details as below:
lsb_release -rd
Ubuntu 8.10
uname -sr
Linux 2.6.27-7-generic
aplay -l
