By chance are any of you using AGP cards?  There is a known (but
quirkable) issue with them that has symptoms quite similar to what's
described here.

of the issue, including steps to test (and workaround the issue).  If it
solves it, please follow the directions in it for posting lspci -vvnn
output and we can quirk it.
