Taipan, Thank you. As it turns out, I already had ccsm installed and followed your instructions to uncheck legacy fullscreen support.
It is strange that this never happened until a couple days ago. I had originally installed Hardy Heron on this machine back in the early part of September (replacing Etch), and didn't have any problems until now. I upgraded to Intrepid through apt-get the day it was released. Anyway, thanks again for the tip.
