Public bug reported:
Hey,
A few days ago, my file associations, and file icons stopped appearing. When I
right-click on a file (that has no icon now) it has no default open. I can
select something with open with, however, it seems to reset my preferences
randomly. As well, random black text appears on my screen when using
file-browser or on the desktop. I am using Gnome. I am attaching a screenshot
of my desktop. When I create files, Gnome does not seem to recognize what kind
of file it is (i think this is where the problem lies). Everything appears to
be an application/octet-stream type (application/octet-stream)
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10
I am not sure if the problem is with Gnome. Sorry. Here is my version
of it though. I am not sure if an update is what caused this.
