Public bug reported:

When I don't disconnect my USB hard drive I discovered that there is about 10%
chance that the boot will fail with the output:
[0.589868] ACPI: Aborted because junk in compressed archive
[2.630137] crc error
[2.696075] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block(0,0)

I have not experienced this error when the USB-disk was not connected.
When the panic does occur, there is nothing I can do to continue, or even shut
down. The power button does not work, even holding it down. I also tried
Alt+SysRq+B, no response. I actually have to unplug the power, turn the laptop
upside-down and remove the battery to get the laptop to reboot.

I am running Ubuntu intrepid.
