Please install the "gphoto2" package, make sure that your camera gets
unmounted after plugging it in (press the "umount" button in the dialog
which pops up), and do
gphoto2 --debug --debug-logfile /tmp/gphoto.debug.txt -L
Does this print an error message, or a list of files on the camera?
Please attach /tmp/gphoto.debug.txt if it prints an error and fails.
