I get same result in Firefox 3.0.4 now that's been released. Additionally i found the focus wasn't in the location bar even in just a maximised firefox let alone in full-screen. It was only in an unmaximised little window that firefox assumed i'd want to lookup an internet address in a new tab.
It's not a problem for me as i'm not using a laptop but it is very odd and quirky.
