Funny you should ask, I just got intrepid installed for the first time
today, all it took was a new motherboard and incidental cpu and ram
upgrade. 8.04.1 would not even boot from a live cd on the original
hardware and neither would Intrepid.

I have not seen this in my Intrepid amd64 install but then again, I have
almost completely new hardware. I was thinking it was something specific
to the amd64 3xxx+ single core cpu since I remember at the time that in
the forums a number of others had the same issue and all were using
amd64 3xxx+ single core cpus.

I will be reconstituting the old machine back to its original specs soon
and will give Intrepid a try on it and let you know... if i can ever get
it to boot.
