Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: unclutter
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10
$ apt-cache policy unclutter
unclutter:
Installed: 8-6
Candidate: 8-6
Version table:

I have a Logitech VX Nano mouse, which has a so-called "hyperscrolling"
wheel that spins freely.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start unclutter.
2. Wait for the cursor to be hidden.
3. Scroll using the wheel without moving the mouse or touching the other
buttons.
Expected result: either
(A) the cursor becomes visible, remains visible while scrolling continues, and
then disappears after the configured pause once scrolling ends; or
(B) the cursor remains invisible throughout the entire scrolling operation.
Observed result:
Instead, the cursor flickers very rapidly while scrolling continues, then
disappears immediately once it ends. The same effect is visible with my older
Microsoft Trackman Optical, but much less pronounced...I suppose because it
scrolls in larger increments than the VX Nano.
Other information:
No unusual behaviour occurs if I scroll *before* unclutter hides the cursor.
Compiz is disabled on my system.
A naive guess is that some code is detecting scrolling events and trying
to re-hide the cursor; but it is doing this *after* other code has
caused it to appear.
