Upgrading to linux-backports-modules helped -- I haven't had any module problems. However, what does happen still is that the connection freezes -- nothing comes in/out although the connection is established. After reconnecting to the access point everything goes back to normal. This happens ~1-2 times a day, mostly when doing something network intensive like scp-ing large files or skyping. Not sure this is related to the module problem, though, as I didn't have to rmmod/modprobe the module since the upgrade.
